socket fix

I had a problem over several days with internet access. Things would be fine, then a Windows Update would auto- install and I would be off-line again. I would use a restore point and get running, only to have the update install again and sink my ship. My IT guru suggested a socket program, and I found yours. Installation and use was simple and straightforward. I'm back on the net all day today and keeping my fingers crossed. So far, so good.

Your software worked well after some thinking out about what I should do next.
It kept telling me that the book was not encrypted therefore I did not need to do anything further but when I eventually realised that I had only asked it to break the password for the pdf document I was working with, all became clear and I was able to open the document.

Functionality

The Contacts Manager is great in that I can store my contacts for my small business, but some of the functionality isn't quite as good as I was expecting.
When I want to search, there are only about 5 or 6 fields that it will search.
I'm a little disappointed, but I guess I'm stuck with it now, so I will have to make the best of it I can.

Worthless for MAC

Maybe somebody could help. This download is an ".exe" file which is about as useful as
pockets in your underwear for us MAC users. I an a film-maker and most professional film
makers and photographers wouldn't have a pc in the same room with them. I do animations
for my films using flash (for mac) and then convert them into HD .mov's I thought this might
be a slick way to make ripples but since it is an EXE file I can't use it. Since Flash is cross
platform one would hope for or perhaps assume plug-ins would be cross platform as well
(like adobe photoshop does with plug ins)... am I missing something here:So, unless
someone can set me straight on how to use this with a MAC my evaluation is as follows:
This product is useless.Thanks..... Maybe it works great with a PC. I probably will never
know.

My favorite Fractal 'browser'. 1 feature stands out, after a zoom you are often a little off centre. Just click on the image and drag to re-centre. Altering the pallette mapping doesnt force a redraw so you can generate your picture and afterwards play with the iteration 'speed' and acceleration. Creates deeeeep mandlebrots, nice anti-aliasing. Pallettes are okay, I would prefer Unltrafractal style pallettes that are text files I can generate with a spreadsheet. These pallettes can be edited with the mouse. but would be nice to be able to access the numbers.

I was unable to complete the process due to the program's alteration of my video settings. the screen was adjusted to 4 bit color and an unattainable resolution leaving everything so large I was barely able to restore to previously known good condition after trying to correct the video with no success.

Overall I like this app. It is powerful, allows you to customize thoroughly, and is fairly intuitive. It is, like most such apps for video, CPU intense so don't be expecting to do all
kinds of other things. I'm running an old box with an 800 Mhz chip and a crappy onboard
VGA video chip and it runs through :).

Some wish list items:

Disk management: While the app allows for a setting where a *max* amount of disk space to be met causes the deletion of, and then addition to, the files being saved, I want to be able to delete by *date* - i.e. time passed, delete files after 2 days, etc.

FTP: FTP is nice but it is becoming less common - and is none-existent in the Apple world - I want to be able to upload to a WebDAV (webfolder) address.

Motion Detection: I've seen better motion detection algorithms that test against decay, color shift and gray value shifts (the latter particularly useful in night time. While the "click" and drag dots and make a polygon thing is interesting it isn't all that helpful
making *multiple* zones of exclusion/inclusion for activity. (see CatSpy, for example of better algo's and zone setting). The problem I see here is that the detection filter doesn't look at the *overall* changes (number of pixels changing color) in the picture to detect
motion but, rather, in *one* area. This means that setting the filter means that motion has to take place in the *same* place repeatedly for it to not be a false positive (I think this is
right? I didn't "get" the Filter method used, still playing with it. )

Scheduling: I like the scheduling. Straight forward to do. To make this a "super app" combine scheduling with sensitivity - when there is less light there is more video noise and more chances of false positives being able to schedule the cam AND its sensitivity with
that schedule helps clean this up.

Archiving - OK, here's a beef: Why do I have to archive *both* video AND jpegs into the same folder? If I could have them in different folders, I could do a lot more with the program (at least with less fuss). I'd like to save, say, only the last five jpegs into a
webpage folder, which could alert me at work say, and then retain all the video in a separate folder which I could check later - the later, being the most space intensive, then could be under "disk management" to not overflow. The jpegs could be archived or replaced according to how many images you wanted to save, or for how long

Overall the interface is good. It's a little awkward in places - why have disk management under one tab but then have a Hardware Tab too? Secondly a tab named "Video" is more intuitively labeled "Image Management", "Recording" etc. maybe?

The help and hints are actually pretty good for an app of this cost and value. I've hunted high and low and this has been at the top of power, customizability and intuitiveness.

I started looking for a program to do exactly what ProfileLink does after finding that the "Hardware Profiles" feature of XP doesn't control what applications (as opposed to services) are loaded at Startup.

ProfileLink seems to sort this problem out extremely well.

Although it is designed with laptops in mind, another potential use is to create a lean profile for gaming. All I want running for games is a windows key blocker and Steam - certainly NOT a virus check!

I needed something to enter discrete "time cards" for up to a dozen cases for one single client, and keep those cases separate.
